The beautiful back of Kathy & Paul's house.
A view of Wendy and Gary's pool. Would you want to leave this???
Gary & Wendy with a present from friends.
Two Kathy's!

We have been here four years and this week is the first time I've been tempted to pull out the space heater we brought from the states. It is also the first time we've shut all the windows. This past weekend I even went to bed with two pairs of socks and two gowns on. It is much better during the day. During the day the sky is so blue it almost blinds you. In the states we would call it "great football weather". All of you know how hot-natured I am so telling you that we haven't had the air conditioner on the entire two months I've been home lets you know it has been cool.

I just finished my third rug since I've been home. It is hard to believe I've been home two months. My little hands have been very busy. I can't wait to get them back. The machine is broken that makes the rugs so I've been waiting and waiting. I am working on some Nativity pillows now. They have been fun. I have noticed that the owners of the store have started whispering about certain things. Do you think this means they think I UNDERSTAND THEM MORE!!!! This is incredible and laughable as they speak so fast I do not understand them but at least I am starting to make a good impression.

I've attached a bunch of pictures on my blog. A couple are from the Dom Pedro Mall. It is the largest mall in Latin America. I would definitely agree. I would guess there are at least 100 restaurants alone if not more. I need to wear my pedometer next time we go and just see how far it is when you walk the whole mall. It has to easily be a mile once around. Christmastime is fantasy land there. I have also attached a picture or two of some of the Christmas trees we have seen there.

We went to a masquerade party for Paul and Kathy's going away party. It was one of the coldest nights so everyone was hunkered down by the barbeque pit. They had a great DJ and he played wonderful music. It reminded me of the States. The young couples had a great time dancing the night away. John and I left early as we are no longer "a young couple". Then, Sunday we had a barbeque to say goodbye to Wendy and Gary. It was at their home and we ate and ate and listened to a wonderful guitarist. Thank goodness Kyle and Heidi are still here. I would die without them. They still will be coming in to make rugs with me. The only fun thing about everyone leaving is they bequeath their pantry items to the people remaining. John and I picked up some brown sugar and soup from Wendy & Gary. Wow, what a treat.

In Brazil they recycle everything. They take it very seriously. We are required to rinse out every plastic container or metal container. There are two garbage cans. One for regular and one for recycle. They are picked up twice everyday. You would be amazed at the very small amount of garbage that ends up at the curb everyday from our 28 apartments. The Americans here have truly learned a lot about being more conservative in this area. We have learned to even wash out our Ziploc's and reuse them. I am sure I will be much more conscious of this when I return to the States.

I turned a year older this month and I was thinking I feel older this year. Then I got to thinking about all the different accounts I check every day. I can remember all the different passwords and that is quite a feat. I guess when I start forgetting those I'll really be old. Many thanks to John who always makes the passwords easy for me to remember. Thank goodness I have a new hairdresser that helps me feel like I look younger. He is so kind. His name is Ernane. He is my 9th hairdresser in 4 years. Hallelujah! I finally found someone I like and he doesn't cost a fortune. He also keeps all my colors on a computer so he will remember what color he used on my hair last.

I will be in the United States of America on July 4. Happy 4th of July friends. What a great country we have. John will be there and Ben will arrive to visit Mom and his new niece sometime in August. We are very excited to be Mimo and Papa to another little Granddaughter sometime soon.
