Kyle's Quilt

Rory got to try out her present from Kyle, my wonderful friend in Brazil.

Her froggie quilt was lovingly sewn by Kyle. She is an amazing quilter.

It is a work of art.

A Day in the Life of Reagan

Reagan loves her playhouse! Reagan LOVES Dora The Explorer!Reagan likes my chalk tree! Simone (she works with John in Brazil) sent Reagan this matching hat and backpack. You never know what you will find in her backpack. It is always a surprise.

A special moment with MimoI TRIED today to keep Reagan happy and occupied. First, we got up and I fixed bacon, eggs and toast. She ate a few eggs and a bit of toast. I failed in the breakfast department. Then she watched her favorite show Dora The Explorer. We fixed pizza for lunch and she had fun. After her nap we played in the back yard with chalk and her house. Everyone knows how hot natured I am so being in the sun lets you know how very much I love this little girl. I've attached some pictures. She is a lot of fun. I'm so glad to be her Mimo.

Jack & Carolyn Hill stopped by for a visit from Wichita Falls. We sure did enjoy seeing them. Rory 3 weeks old in a very big bow!
Carolyn and Jack Hill stopped by Goldsboro to see us from Wichita Falls. It was so nice to see them. We were just sad that John W. wasn't here. It had been a long time for me. Probably over four years. John and Meredith attended their Bible Study in WF when they were dating. We knew them through The Navigators. They are such a blessing to so many people.

Rory turned 3 weeks on Monday. We took the attached picture of her. In this case the bow is almost bigger than the child. = ) Still very cute though.

Touring Washington, DC & Wedding of Lindsay & Jason

Reagan, our future Clemson Tiger Cheerleader
Lindsay & Jason at their Wedding!Mary Beasley (Grandmother of the bride) & me!
Kathy (Mother of the Bride) and me!
John and me all cleaned up!

John and I were in Washington DC for the wedding of Lindsay and Jason. Lindsay's parents are Kathy & Clinton and are my good friends from high school. I remember when they started dating so I feel like I've come full circle being at the wedding of their daughter.

This is also the first time John and I have been to DC without children so it has been a different kind of trip for us. Much more laid back and relaxed. Thursday, after driving 6 hours to get here, we went to the Spy Museum. It was a lot of fun and very informative. The only bad thing is it makes you very paranoid about everything and everyone. It told horrible and very sad stories of spies choosing (most of the time) money over family, friends and most of all country.

Friday we went to the Newseum. It was the most fascinating of all and we had a wonderful time on all six floors. It showed newspapers from the beginning and had many great movies about all aspects of the News. The most touching for us was the room dedicated to 9/11. It had front page headlines from all the States in the US and all over the world after 9/11 happened. We had such a great time. Next time you go don't miss this. Also, the food in the cafeteria is by Wolfgang Puck and it was delicious, expensive but delicious. We were there after school started so I am sure on days when there are a lot of school kids it could be crowded and boisterous.
Friday Evening was the wedding and we had the most wonderful time. It was in a beautiful botanical garden in Vienna Virginia. The bride was beautiful as was her mother and grandmothers and Clinton was the best FATHER OF THE BRIDE ever. His toast was perfect. The best was the Father/Daughter Dance. They danced to "The Way You Look Tonight". And I am telling you Clinton can really dance. I felt this is a very sweet song but very sad too. Kathy and Clinton are wonderful parents and Lindsay has been their special blessing. Jason is very lucky to be a part of their family now. I also got to see Jack Widenor from Brainerd High School and his wife Karen. Jack made me sick as he has not aged one bit since high school. He looked wonderful. I'm so glad they have remained friends all these years.

The Way You Look Tonight
Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.
Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.
With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.
Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

Saturday we got up at 6:00AM so we could be at the Washington Memorial at 7:00AM to get 9:00AM tickets. The AM's let you know that it was a bit of a sacrifice for me my last day of vacation but I did it. D.C. is a much better place early on Saturday morning than when it is bustling and crazy. We got our tickets and John got to go to the top. I had been in 9th grade on my field trip. The only thing I remember is I walked the steps then and wouldn't have been able to walk 20 of the 897 steps now 42 years later. Oh to be young again. We then went to the Kennedy Center and toured it. I enjoyed it but would not recommend it because the parking was $18.00 for a two hour tour (the tour is free though). I thought that was a rip off. It would be nice to see a concert or a play there though.

We played outside a lot today with Reagan and Rory as John and John worked on the fence most of the afternoon. It wore all of us out. These two little girls have me wrapped around their little finger and I will really miss them a lot when I leave. Meredith and John continue to amaze me with how good they are with these little bundles of joy.

We are getting John ready to go to Anderson tomorrow. He will be working on a special project for 2 months at Owens Corning in Starr. I will be there with him too the month of October and Lee and Beth Propp are going to let me work some so please come by and see me. I am so excited. We will be staying at the Fairfield Inn. The only really sad thing is John and I gave up our Clemson Season Tickets this year of all years. We've had the same seats for 15 years and the one year we can use them they are gone. So Sad!
God answered prayers for the safe surgeries of Ed Cothran and Miriam Cromer. For this I give Him praise.
Pictures will be posted on my blog.
Much love, Kathy

Granddaughter Rory Abigail is here!

Rory Abigail Basel 3 weeks old John and me with Rory at 3 weeks old.

We arrived in North Carolina Wednesday and got to meet our new Granddaughter Rory Abigail Basel. She was born August 17 and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces. She is so good. She slept most of the day today and we enjoyed just watching her. She slept 8 hours last night so Meredith got a lot of good rest. She looks a lot like Reagan except for darker hair and more olive skin like her Daddy. Reagan gave her many kisses today and seems to have come to terms with this little bundle of joy invading her space. Meredith and John are great parents. John and I are so very blessed to be here.

John also flew to California to visit with Ben. He had such a good time. It had been over two years since John last saw him and that is way too long. They packed a lot of things into just two days. He has the pictures to prove it. Ben continues to enjoy his job and is learning new things everyday. We are very proud of him.

I had been in Chattanooga for about six weeks. I decided while I was there to strip some wallpaper off the dining room at Mom's and work in her yard. It is my personal opinion if you really want to truly torture someone all you need to do is give them a room of wallpaper to strip or give them a good case of poison ivy. Either one should put you over the edge. It did me. The poison ivy ruined two weeks of my life. The only saving thing was Mom and I ate out ALOT. I believe every place she went she got shrimp or seafood. She loves shrimp fried, broiled, baked and skewered. We had a lot of fun.

On our travels here we got to spend time in Anderson and to see a bunch of friends. We also got to have ice cream (bad bad bad) at the Clemson Dairy. The Clemson ice cream is the reason I gained 20 pounds the first summer of our marriage. We also ate supper with Katherine and Jim in Columbia. Then we drove to Bennettsville and Betsy met us there and she and I survived 3 hours of John's stories about being raised there. John had looked forward to this for a long time. We then drove to Myrtle Beach where we walked on the beach and did some shopping. In one week John had his tootsies in the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. Then we were off to John's other favorite destination, Calabash, North Carolina! He had so many wonderful memories of his family driving there to eat shrimp and hushpuppies. The waitress brought a basket of hushpuppies while I was in the restroom and he consumed most of them before I returned. Needless to say, we ate too much Tuesday Night. John also spent Saturday touring the gravesite where his Grandparents are buried in Fayetteville, N.C. with Betsy & Alan and Katherine & Jim.

I am recovering from a bad case of food poisoning so I will post pictures on my blog as soon as I am up to it. Please pray that I feel better quickly as we leave on Thursday to go to the wedding in Virginia of Lindsay & Jason and I want to be chipper. Also, please pray for our friend Ed Cothran who will have heart surgery on Wednesday.
