Touring Washington, DC & Wedding of Lindsay & Jason

Reagan, our future Clemson Tiger Cheerleader
Lindsay & Jason at their Wedding!Mary Beasley (Grandmother of the bride) & me!
Kathy (Mother of the Bride) and me!
John and me all cleaned up!

John and I were in Washington DC for the wedding of Lindsay and Jason. Lindsay's parents are Kathy & Clinton and are my good friends from high school. I remember when they started dating so I feel like I've come full circle being at the wedding of their daughter.

This is also the first time John and I have been to DC without children so it has been a different kind of trip for us. Much more laid back and relaxed. Thursday, after driving 6 hours to get here, we went to the Spy Museum. It was a lot of fun and very informative. The only bad thing is it makes you very paranoid about everything and everyone. It told horrible and very sad stories of spies choosing (most of the time) money over family, friends and most of all country.

Friday we went to the Newseum. It was the most fascinating of all and we had a wonderful time on all six floors. It showed newspapers from the beginning and had many great movies about all aspects of the News. The most touching for us was the room dedicated to 9/11. It had front page headlines from all the States in the US and all over the world after 9/11 happened. We had such a great time. Next time you go don't miss this. Also, the food in the cafeteria is by Wolfgang Puck and it was delicious, expensive but delicious. We were there after school started so I am sure on days when there are a lot of school kids it could be crowded and boisterous.
Friday Evening was the wedding and we had the most wonderful time. It was in a beautiful botanical garden in Vienna Virginia. The bride was beautiful as was her mother and grandmothers and Clinton was the best FATHER OF THE BRIDE ever. His toast was perfect. The best was the Father/Daughter Dance. They danced to "The Way You Look Tonight". And I am telling you Clinton can really dance. I felt this is a very sweet song but very sad too. Kathy and Clinton are wonderful parents and Lindsay has been their special blessing. Jason is very lucky to be a part of their family now. I also got to see Jack Widenor from Brainerd High School and his wife Karen. Jack made me sick as he has not aged one bit since high school. He looked wonderful. I'm so glad they have remained friends all these years.

The Way You Look Tonight
Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.
Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.
With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.
Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

Saturday we got up at 6:00AM so we could be at the Washington Memorial at 7:00AM to get 9:00AM tickets. The AM's let you know that it was a bit of a sacrifice for me my last day of vacation but I did it. D.C. is a much better place early on Saturday morning than when it is bustling and crazy. We got our tickets and John got to go to the top. I had been in 9th grade on my field trip. The only thing I remember is I walked the steps then and wouldn't have been able to walk 20 of the 897 steps now 42 years later. Oh to be young again. We then went to the Kennedy Center and toured it. I enjoyed it but would not recommend it because the parking was $18.00 for a two hour tour (the tour is free though). I thought that was a rip off. It would be nice to see a concert or a play there though.

We played outside a lot today with Reagan and Rory as John and John worked on the fence most of the afternoon. It wore all of us out. These two little girls have me wrapped around their little finger and I will really miss them a lot when I leave. Meredith and John continue to amaze me with how good they are with these little bundles of joy.

We are getting John ready to go to Anderson tomorrow. He will be working on a special project for 2 months at Owens Corning in Starr. I will be there with him too the month of October and Lee and Beth Propp are going to let me work some so please come by and see me. I am so excited. We will be staying at the Fairfield Inn. The only really sad thing is John and I gave up our Clemson Season Tickets this year of all years. We've had the same seats for 15 years and the one year we can use them they are gone. So Sad!
God answered prayers for the safe surgeries of Ed Cothran and Miriam Cromer. For this I give Him praise.
Pictures will be posted on my blog.
Much love, Kathy
